Credentials and Training
I am a nationally certified and state licensed bodywork and massage therapist, NCLMBT #2422. I was formally educated in massage at the Carolina School of Massage Therapy, graduating in 1991. I followed that with the Graduate Program in Somatic Studies at the Body Therapy Institute, graduating in 1992. I have since taken numerous post-graduate seminars in related work. I am Guild Certified as a Feldenkrais Practitioner, #3305.
I traveled and assisted with Dr. Michael Shea, noted bodywork educator and author. I also edited his texts on Myofascial Release and the visceral work of Dr. Barral. I have also taught seminars for therapists in the U.S. and Canada on Myofascial Release and Somatic Cranial Work.
I have a professional library of over 100 bodywork texts, which I constantly read and reread and add to, looking for new ways to approach my work. I maintain connection with an Internet community of bodyworkers, and together we contribute to the growth of our field through discussions of theory and practice. I organize a study group for Feldenkrais practitioners here in Salt Lake City. I regularly receive work from other gifted practitioners to expand my knowledge, and because I like it!
My readings and/or classroom studies have included (alphabetically):
Action Theater, Alexander Technique, Authentic Movement, Body Mind Centering, Contact Improvisation, Continuum, Cranial work, Deep Tissue massage, the Feldenkrais Method, Formative Psychology, Hakomi, Hanna Somatics, Ideokinesis, Laban Movement Analysis, Neuromuscular Therapy, Polarity therapy, Positional Release, Process Oriented Bodywork, Reiki, Sports massage, Structural Integration, Swedish massage and Visceral work.
My personal exploration of the body has been crucial to my professional development. At various times I have explored aerial dance, Modern dance, ballet, Aikido, biking, swimming, weightlifting, rollerblading, hiking, running, skiing, Tai Chi, Capoeira and yoga.
I want to thank all my teachers, and the authors who have created this body of knowledge. I humbly acknowledge that I am not the final authority on any of these approaches. I use what I have been able to assimilate from class time and readings and personal exposure in my own sessions. May we all continue to grow, explore, heal and enjoy!
