My Philosophy
"If you don't live in your body... then you are nowhere" Carl Gustav Jung
I work with people, and I take care to not reduce anyone to just problems or symptoms. I start with the body as a way to support your whole person. I stay with your body, and how you use it, because as Dr. Rolf said, "It is what we can get our hands on". Every thing that happens in a person's life has a physical component. Every movement, every thought, and every emotion create a reflection in the reality of the body.
Our lives are unique, and so are our bodies. Respecting that truth creates a foundation for lasting healing. The focus stays on how you have developed your physical existence, and how enjoyable that is for you. I have a good working understanding of what is considered normal structure and function. From that it is possible to ask useful questions. The process of inquiry is both verbal and physical. You answer, often through your body, and learn how to structure your body and life in a way that works for you. This way we avoid the pitfalls of quick assumptions and common cultural misconceptions.
I focus on identifying your available resources. When you have a good current idea of what works for you, every challenge can be met with the right resources applied in the right direction with the right amount of energy.
Our main tools in the material world are our bodies and our knowledge of how we can use them. "It's a poor workman who blames his tools", goes the folk wisdom. My aim is to help you organize your tools and be ready to act effectively in any new situation.
This work is more than just solving problems. It is just as much a process of creating the ability to respond to any challenge in life with reasonable confidence. Our pains, fears, anxieties and blind spots tell us where we can develop our resources.
I want you to leave each session with a sense of feeling better about yourself in the present, being more able to face future challenges, and realizing what an interesting and miraculous thing it is to be the person you are.
